About the Collection

Foundations of the Restoration (REL C 225) is a required course for all BYU students. Taught primarily by Religious Education faculty, the purpose of the course is to provide students with an opportunity to study “the foundational revelations, doctrine, historical events and people relevant to the unfolding restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ” (BYU Religious Education website).

This site allows students and faculty to search among thousands of primary sources found in BYU’s L. Tom Perry Special Collections that are relevant to the different units of the Foundations of the Restoration course.

This collection of sources is searchable by keywords, REL C 225 unit, title, author, date, and call number. The site provides descriptive information about relevant items, with links to online finding aids created by Perry Special Collections (for manuscripts) or catalog records in the Lee Library online catalog (for printed items) when available. If an item has been digitized and posted online, a link to the digital version will also be provided. Search results can be sorted by REL C 225 unit, title, author, date, and call number.

The purpose of this site is to provide students and faculty with an opportunity to view many of the original sources of the Church history that are available on BYU’s campus—bringing people and events from Church history to life.

Located on the first floor of the Harold B. Lee Library on BYU’s Provo campus, Perry Special Collections houses one of the premier collections of historical documents related to the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including journals, letters, photographs, books, and other printed items.
