Annual S. Lyman Tyler Professionalism Award

Purpose: To honor service and excellence over an extended period of time and not one-time individual achievements.

Eligible: Full-time faculty who has been on the library staff for over five years.

Past recipients

Job performance criteria

  • Demonstrates significant professional service and productivity in the job assignment.
  • Consistently maintains a high level of competence and knowledge in the execution of job duties combined with creativity and enthusiasm for the job itself.

Professionalism criteria

  • Has made important contributions to the field of librarianship in general, such as participation and leadership in regional and national professional organizations and published research.
  • Has made significant contributions to the university in general.

Annual Faculty Librarianship Award

Purpose: To honor service and excellence over an extended period of time and not one-time individual achievements.

Eligible: Full-time faculty who has been on the library staff for over five years.

Past recipients

  • Has an established record of qualitative and quantitative achievement in the day-to-day library job assignment.
  • Demonstrates leadership by showing initiative in dealing with department and library issues.
  • Maintains a positive attitude towards the job.
  • Makes an effort to improve skills directly related to the job.
  • Shows a broad interest in the library in general.
  • Has a high level of creativity on the job.
  • Seeks new or innovative ways to solve problems.
  • Develops new approaches, new programs, and new ways to streamline procedures.
  • Is innovative and alert to the need for changes and improvements.
  • Undertakes innovative studies or develops new tools or systems to improve effectiveness.
  • Makes significant contributions to the university and the library beyond normal citizenship expectations.

Professionalism criteria

  • Works well with others at all levels—supervisors, peers, public, part-time students—and improves department morale.
  • Shares ideas and discoveries with colleagues.
  • Is dependable, cooperative, adaptable, and pleasant.

Two Annual Library Staff Excellence Awards

Purpose: To honor service and excellence over an extended period of time and not one-time individual achievements.

Eligible: Full-time or part-time employee who has been on the library staff for over two years.

  • Maintains a positive attitude towards the job.
  • Makes an effort to improve skills directly related to the job.
  • Has an interest broader than the individual’s department.
  • Has a high level of creativity on the job.
  • Seeks new and innovative ways to solve problems.
  • Suggests new approaches, new programs, and new ways to streamline procedures.
  • Is innovative and alert to the need for changes and improvements.

Star Awards

Purpose: To honor library employees who demonstrate outstanding service and/or accomplishment to the Library, University, or library community in general. Recognizes one-time accomplishments and ongoing contributions.

Eligible: All library faculty, administrative, and staff employees, including all non-student part-time employees.
