Annual S. Lyman Tyler Professionalism Award

Purpose

To honor service and excellence over an extended period of time and not one-time individual achievements.

Eligible

Full-time faculty who has been on the library staff for over five years.

Job Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates significant professional service and productivity in the job assignment.
  • Consistently maintains a high level of competence and knowledge in the execution of job duties combined with creativity and enthusiasm for the job itself.

Professionalism Criteria

  • Has made important contributions to the field of librarianship in general, such as participation and leadership in regional and national professional organizations and published research.
  • Has made significant contributions to the university in general.

Annual Faculty Librarianship Award

Purpose

To honor service and excellence over an extended period of time and not one-time individual achievements.

Eligible

Full-time faculty who has been on the library staff for over five years.

Job Performance Criteria

  • Has an established record of qualitative and quantitative achievement in the day-to-day library job assignment.
  • Demonstrates leadership by showing initiative in dealing with department and library issues.
  • Maintains a positive attitude towards the job.
  • Makes an effort to improve skills directly related to the job.
  • Shows a broad interest in the library in general.
  • Has a high level of creativity on the job.
  • Seeks new or innovative ways to solve problems.
  • Develops new approaches, new programs, and new ways to streamline procedures.
  • Is innovative and alert to the need for changes and improvements.
  • Undertakes innovative studies or develops new tools or systems to improve effectiveness.
  • Makes significant contributions to the university and the library beyond normal citizenship expectations.

Professionalism Criteria

  • Works well with others at all levels—supervisors, peers, public, part-time students—and improves department morale.
  • Shares ideas and discoveries with colleagues.
  • Is dependable, cooperative, adaptable, and pleasant.

Purpose

Full-time or part-time employee who has been on the library staff for over two years.

  • Has an established record of qualitative and quantitative achievement in the day-to-day library job assignment.
  • Maintains a positive attitude towards the job.
  • Makes an effort to improve skills directly related to the job.
  • Has an interest broader than the individual’s department.
  • Has a high level of creativity on the job.
  • Seeks new and innovative ways to solve problems.
  • Suggests new approaches, new programs, and new ways to streamline procedures.
  • Is innovative and alert to the need for changes and improvements.

Professionalism Criteria

  • Works well with others at all levels—supervisors, peers, public, part-time students.
  • Contributes significantly to department morale.
  • Is dependable, cooperative, adaptable, and pleasant.

Star Awards

Purpose

To honor library employees who demonstrate an outstanding one-time example of service and/or accomplishment to the university, library, or library community in general.

Eligible

All library non-student employees who meet the Accomplishment and Professionalism Criteria.

Accomplishment Criteria

  • The service or accomplishment of the recipient exemplifies innovation, creativity, or customer service above and beyond regular job duties and assignments.

Professionalism Critera

  • The recipient regularly demonstrates qualitative and quantitative achievement in the day-to-day library job assignment.
  • The recipient works well with others at all levels—supervisors, peers, public, part-time students.

Nomination

Any library employee may nominate another employee to receive a STAR Award by sending an email describing how the nominee meets the award criteria either to the Chair of the Awards Committee or to the nominee’s AUL. Nominations made to the Awards Committee will be passed to the nominee’s AUL.
