The L. Tom Perry Special Collections Reference staff provides PDF scans, high-resolution tiffs, and digital surrogates of media: audiocassettes, VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs, and reel-to-reel tapes. Copy requests may be made either in person or remotely through the Aeon system.

Photocopy requests

  • Requests take 1-2 days to complete. No same day copies.
  • Approval for photocopying is made on a case-by-case basis by the Reference Librarian or Curator.
  • PDF scans at 200 dpi are 25 cents per page and will be sent via email.
  • Fees must be paid in advance.

High-resolution scans (tiff files)

  • Special Collections provides high-resolution digital scans of 400 dpi, suitable for publication and other uses. Higher dpi resolution scans are also available.
  • If requesting high resolution scans through email or Aeon, please make sure to provide exact citations (collection number, collection title, box number, folder number, and item description). If possible, send us a jpeg of the image also so that there is no confusion.
  • 400 dpi high-resolution scans are $4.00 each.

Audiovisual reproduction

  • If requesting audiovisual duplication through email or Aeon, please make sure to provide exact citations (Call number, Collection title, item description) of the requested item.
  • Fees for Audiovisual duplication are based on the length of the recording.
  • Upon receipt of payment, items will be sent to our Audiovisual Digital Lab. Depending upon the nature of the media, requests may take from 4-6 days to fulfill.
  • Digital files will be sent as MP4 files via email.

Copyright

  • Please note that obtaining a photocopy does not grant the receiver the right to publish copyrighted materials. Researchers are responsible for securing from the holder of the copyright the permission to publish copyrighted materials. In many instances, Special Collections is not the copyright holder. It is the patron’s sole responsibility to determine copyright status and to obtain any required permission from the copyright holder. Other legal restrictions in addition to copyright, such as privacy, publicity and trademark rights, may also limit a researcher’s use of library materials.
