Overview

The mission of the library security department is to protect the patrons, employees and collections of the library; while creating a secure and peaceful environment to enhance educational and professional pursuits of all persons within.

Library Security is one of the divisions of the University Police Department. It is comprised of thirty-five civilian security officers, who are full-time students at the University. The division is managed by Sergeant Randy O'Hara who is a state certified police officer. The Library is monitored by officers at the entrance and exits, others who patrol the building and staff the control room; where alarms and video cameras are monitored. Officers are trained in a wide variety of areas completing a semester of training in the Security Academy.
