Overview
- We offer the resources for 3D scanning via two different methods: photogrammetry or laser. Photogrammetry is for when a full color scan is needed, laser doesn't capture color but is much faster and keeps sizing accurate
- Employees familiar with 3D scanning are available to answer questions, but you'll be responsible for performing the scan. You'll be asked to watch this video if using the laser scanner. Laser scanner is a FARO xP head, with a 2 meter Quantum Max arm.
- The resulting file is usually an .stl or .obj, but other options are available upon request
- Shiny objects can be difficult to scan well and may require the use of a dulling spray (acetone and clay). Transparent or translucent objects won't scan
- 3D scanning is only available to current students and employees
