About the Collection
This digital collection is a subset of the James Edward Talmage papers. It only includes the first twelve of thirty volumes of James E. Talmage’s personal diaries, dating from 1879 to 1911. These journals give accounts of Talmage’s experiences migrating from England to Provo, Utah; early education at Brigham Young Academy under Karl G. Maeser; receiving post-secondary education at schools on the East Coast; teaching and lecturing at several instituions including Brigham Young Academy in Provo, and LDS University and University of Utah in Salt Lake City; working as manager of the Deseret Museum; travels through Utah and the Inter-Mountain West doing geological research and work as a mining consultant; travels to Europe for scientific conferences and Church matters; marriage and family experiences; important world events; and, many other experiences prior to becoming an Apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
