Access the Collections
Using the Library Catalog
To find more examples of works on natural history held by L. Tom Perry Special Collections in the library catalog, follow these steps:
1. Select “HBLL Special Collections” on the “library” drop-down to limit your search. To search the entire library, including electronic resources and microfilm, you would omit this step.
2. Items may be found by searching for authors, titles, keywords, or subjects. When searching for authors, remember to construct your search using the “last name, first name” format.
3. The following are just a few of the subject headings used in the catalog. You can add the words “Early works” to your subject search to find medieval, Renaissance, and early modern scientific works.
- Natural history
- Botany
- Materia medica
- Zoology
- Ornithology
- Geology
4. Use the “limit your search results” categories in the box at the left of the results page to further explore by subject, theme, or genre.
5. You may also use tools found under the Advanced Keyword Search link to further limit your search by publication date. In the Advanced Keyword search window form, enter a specific date or date range in the “pubyear” field.
