June Meeting Information
June 10, 2008
The TLC meet June 7th at 2:00 the disucssion was on social networking sites for books and libraries.
The sites discussed were:
http://www.shelfari.com/
http://www.goodreads.com
http://www.librarything.com/
http://del.icio.us/
Rachel discussed goodreads. Rachel uses it to remember the things she has read, to give recommendations to others, and to connect with other readers. There are many things she likes about it. She finds that the interface is easy to use, it has all the information you want to add in one place unlike shelfari which has it in hard to find places. She also finds the database quite extensive and has not yet found a book, even professional ones, that were not listed. She also likes the “friends” feature that makes it very social.
Shelfari, is similar to goodreads and has a great graphic display, but Rachel has found that the features of goodreads makes it easier and more user friendly.
Library Thing is also popular but it was designed more to catalog books you own than to keep a record of everything you have read or are reading. The features to connect to other readers are also not there and it costs if you add more than 200 books.
del.icio.us is a great way to bookmark websites. It was suggested that this would be a good tool to connect with faculty and students across campus.
