Summary of August Meeting

August 3, 2007

We had a lot of good discussion at our August meeting.

First we revisited RSS feeds.  Gerrit Van Dyk used the white board to show us how to add feeds to the reader in Outlook 2007.  However Gerrit (and others) have found that there is a bug in this reader that does not allow some feeds to update.  This makes this reader hard to use.  Gerrit found that updating your Internet Explorer to version 7 fixes this issue.  However since we all may not want to go to version 7 using another reader is probably the best choice.  What followed was a very good discussion on the pros and cons of RSS feeds and various readers.

Next Betsy Hopkins showed us iGoogle.  This is an interactive site where you can have lots of “stuff” including access to e-mail, Google reader, weather, gas prices, and even other websites.  If you have a Google account you can use iGoogle.  Many people made their own iGoogle pages.  How do you use iGoogle?  What fun “stuff” have you found you might want to share?  Post a comment to the blog and let everyone know.

Lastly we learned about posting comments to the TLC blog.  Everyone can interact with the blog by posting comments.  If you would like something bigger posted then just adding a comment please send it to Rachel Wadham and she put it up.  Everyone was encouraged to post comments to the blog.

We spoke about items for next meeting.  It was decided that we will discuss MEEBO (that the MEGI department is now using) and other interactive chat applications.  We will also look at Google Documents.  We are also going to set up groups of 4 or 5 to learn Camtasia.  If you are interested in that post a comment to the Camtasia post above.

If you have any ideas of technologies you would like to share or something you would just like to know more about then post a comment so we can add your ideas to our agenda!
