This summer we have been working to migrate ScholarsArchive to a new server. So far, so good! In about a month we’ll have the new ScholarsArchive up and running. You will still be able to access your items the same way and permanent URLs will still be functioning. The home page of ScholarsArchive will still be the same, but you’ll see a difference in the way the collections look when you browse or search for items. We think you’ll like the changes. Check back next month to see the new and improved ScholarsArchive!

I just finished reviewing a professor’s list of publications to see what we could add to ScholarsArchive. I was so happy to see there were a dozen articles we could add! If you’re not sure which publications you can legally add to ScholarsArchive, we can help. We’ll look at the copyright conditions for each publication and work with you to find the versions that can be shared online. Email lists to: scholarsarchive@byu.edu.

Weber State University hosted the 2011 Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research back in February. There were about 34 oral or poster presentations made by BYU students at the conference. These presentations represent some of the exceptional student work and faculty mentoring going on at BYU, so we are gathering the presentations for ScholarsArchive. If you or someone you mentored participated in UCUR, please submit those presentations so we can all benefit from your hard work!

Yet another semester has come to a close! ScholarsArchive has had some excellent additions from students this semester. Alan T. Farnes wrote, A New Interpretation of Luke’s Prodigal Manager, which can be found in the Library Research Grants collection. There were also research posters added by students to the FHSS Mentored Research Conference collection. And of course, there will be new electronic theses and dissertations coming from grad students. Congratulations to all our graduates!

This summer we are migrating ScholarsArchive to a new server. Don’t worry, all the items will still be accessible during the migration. And after the move, you will still be able to access your items the same way and permanent URLs will still be functioning. We believe that this move will be a long-term benefit to the Library and our customers.
During the migration period (Spring/Summer 2011) we will be unable to add, delete or edit ScholarsArchive items. So, if you have a file you’ve been waiting to send us take a minute to do it now so we can add it before the migration!
If you want items added before the migration, please submit them before Thursday, April 21. You are still welcome to submit items after that date, we’ll just keep it in a safe place and add them as soon as we can!
To submit items go to the ScholarsArchive homepage and click “Submit Items” on the right side of the page. Or click here to get started!

You can see the entire digital herbarium collection in ScholarsArchive, but until the end of the semester you have the chance to see some original herbarium items on display. Stop by the exhibit on level 3 of the Library for a look and while you’re there you can learn more about digital collections. Look for the display case with four of the items from the S. L. Welsh Herbaium. Dr. Leigh Johnson is curator of the collection and kindly loaned the Library these beautiful plant samples.

If you haven’t been by the Library lately you might not know that there’s an exhibit on level 3 about digital collections. ScholarsArchive is one of the Library’s digital collections and is featured in the exhibit. One of the display cases has three of the items from the BYU/Theatre & Media Arts historical clothing collection. Dr. Mary Farahnakian is curator of the collection and graciously loaned the Library a dress, hat and pair of shoes so people could see that digital collections are more than just books and documents. Of course, you can see the entire historical clothing collection in ScholarsArchive, but until the end of the semester you have the chance to see the original items, so stop by soon and take a look!

Do you have images or other artifacts that would be valuable to other researchers? If so, you should consider adding your research materials to ScholarsArchive. Two of the most often viewed collections in ScholarsArchive are research collections. Both the Historical Clothing Collection and Herbarium Collection are research collections comprised of images provided by professors on campus. By adding their images to ScholarsArchive, they’ve made it possible for researchers worldwide to benefit from their work!
Please send an email to scholarsarchive@byu.edu to get started!
