About the Event:
The dashing Errol Flynn stars as a thinly veiled Sir Frances Drake who comes to the aid of Queen Elizabeth against Spain in 16th Century England. Screenwriters Howard Koch and Seton I. Miller give this historical action drama a distinctly late-1930s flavor dramatizing the adversarial relationship between the two countries as more Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement than Winston Churchill’s boldness inasmuch as, during the film’s production and release, the world was at war. Spirited direction by Michael (The Adventures of Robin Hood) Curtiz, and a lush musical score by Erich Wolfgang Korngold make The Sea Hawk vastly entertaining.
Warner Bros. 1940. 127 mins. Director: Michael Curtiz.

Shown with the movie: Spy Smasher: Chapter 1 “America Beware;” Chapter 2 “Human Target.”
