About the Event
Starring John Wayne, Elsa Martinelli, Hardy Kruger, Gerard Blain, Red Buttons, Bruce Cabot. In Swahili, the word “hatari” means “danger.” In the movies, Hatari! meant great entertainment to audiences in 1962, ranking among the top 10 box office successes of the year. John Wayne, with a hand-picked crew, traps zoo animals in Africa, as a news photographer (the gorgeous Martinelli) aims to trap him. Acclaimed director Hawks filmed his cast actually participating in the exciting chase-and-capture scenes. As in many Hawks films, he dramatizes the pressure of a small group of professionals pulling together to get a dangerous job done. The visuals of the location shooting in Africa are heightened by our showing a very rare dye-transfer Technicolor print of this action-packed film. Production photographs from location photography and items from the Howard Hawks Papers in Special Collections will be shown before the screening. Paramount Pictures, 1962. 159 mins.
Director: Howard Hawks.

  1. To Whom it May Concern:

I am researching the production of Hatari! for a magazine article.

Does your library have any material from the Howard Hawks Papers that discusses the production of this film, and if so, is there any way of examining them?

Thank you for your attention to this inquiry.
