About the Event
Swashbuckling Flynn, who swaggered his way through Captain Blood, The Adventures of Robin Hood, and The Sea Hawk, is at his best in this tongue-in-cheek parody of his own romantic image. Set in 17th century Spain, this version has little to do with the Don Juan of poetry and literature. Rather, it has a reformed Don Juan seeking the affections of Queen Margaret, much to the dismay of King Phillip III and his sinister minister, the Duke de Lorca. Max Steiner’s energetic score complements the lavish sets and the light-hearted mood of this last of the big-budgeted films for Errol Flynn. Both the original pencil score and the studio recordings are preserved in the Max Steiner Papers in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections. Warner Bros. 1949. 110 mins. Technicolor. Director: Vincent Sherman.
Special discounted price on the original limited edition Max Steiner soundtrack of tonight’s film, an exclusive release of the BYU Film Music Archive.
