About the Event
Singer and actor Frank Sinatra’s own company financed this adventure tale starring the Rat Pack that was, to put it mildly, “generously” borrowed from George Stevens’ Gunga Din, but set in the American southwest in a U.S. Cavalry detachment. Sergeants 3 was filmed by producer Howard Koch and directed by action-oriented John Sturges (The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven) amid the rugged red-rock beauty of southern Utah near the little town of Kanab, where he had filmed nine other films. Not seen on television for more than 40 years, Sergeants 3 has never appeared on home video and this showing is from the one of the few existing dye- transfer widescreen Technicolor prints, preserved in the BYU Motion Picture Archive. Essex-Claude/United Artists. 1962. 112 mins. Dye-transfer Technicolor and Panavision. Director: John Sturges.
