About the Event
Starring Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Jacqueline Wells, Mae Busch, Darla Hood. From their pairing by Hal Roach in 1927 up until 1935, the classic team of Laurel and Hardy became famous primarily because of their two-reel comedy shorts, but they found even greater success in feature-length films. In The Bohemian Girl, comedy and culture come together in this comedic version of Michael Balfe’s opera of robing gypsies who inadvertently “kidnap” the young daughter of the powerful Count Arnheim. Laurel and Hardy perform flawless routines–including one where Laurel and Hardy biographer Randy Skretvedt writes: “The Laurel and Hardy scenes are among their best and they have enough footage to make the film one of their funniest.”
Hal Roach Productions/Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. 1936. 70 mins. Director: James W. Horne and Charles Rogers.
