About the Event

Starring Richard Todd, Jean Peters. Peter Marshall was a Scottish Presbyterian minister who came to America to be the pastor of the Church of the Presidents and was later chaplain of the United States Senate and whose life was movingly described in his wife Catherine’s best-seller book. The film version of his story was given a large budget, widescreen CinemaScope treatment and directed by the able Henry Koster, whose papers are in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections, and whose demonstrated skill with religious films include The Robe and The Story of Ruth. A Man Called Peter has been judged by Fox studio historian Tony Thomas “as one of the finest films dealing with religion.”
Twentieth Century-Fox. 1955. Dye-transfer Technicolor. CinemaScope. 117 mins. Director: Henry Koster.
