About the Event
The film’s title suggests just another throw-away low-grade drive-in horror film of the Fifties. However, over the years, I Married a Monster From Outer Space, has developed a cult following in this partial thematic derivative of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Talbott, who appeared in many horror films of the day, marries a lookalike alien of her fiancĂ© (Tryon, before his even more successful career as a novelist) and the difficulties begin as she notices that he doesn’t act “normal.” Post World War II Cold War themes of entrapment, paranoia, and questionable identity all appear in this film that under Gene Fowler Jr.’s direction becomes a cut above the standard drive-in horror films of the decade. Fowler was once a film editor for celebrated German director Fritz Lang and Lang’s touch for mood is evident here. Paramount Pictures. 1958. 78 mins. Director: Gene Fowler, Jr.
