About the Event
The war-time romantic drama that has more famous quotable lines of dialouge than perhaps any other movie, Casablanca follows Rick Blaine, expatriate American saloon owner, and Ilsa, the woman who ran out on him but comes back into his life with her husband, a leader in the Resistance Movement. Why? They both need the valuable exit visas to freedom that only Rick has. Taut pacing by director Michael Curtiz is complemented by fine performances and a lush score by Max Steiner, the song “As Time Goes By” is memorably woven into his original score. Casablanca was the winner of 3 Academy Awards. Special Collections preserves the Max Steiner Papers. Warner Bros. 1943. 104 mins. Director: Michael Curtiz
