Searching the Periodicals Collection can be a little overwhelming. Below are a few useful hints and tips meant to help make searching our room a bit easier. If you still can’t find what you are looking for, stop by the Periodicals Reference Desk or call us at (801) 422-3666.
Searching for Periodical Articles
Searching the 22,000 titles available in the Periodicals Room has never been easier! Simply follow these three steps:
- Search for articles by going to the library home page and searching by discipline. Select the discipline of your research. Enter your search terms. The library catalog will automatically search all the recommended databases that index periodicals in that discipline.
- Browse the articles in your search results. Once you have found one that suits your research, make a note of the periodical title, volume, issue and page number that the article is found on. Some databases offer full-text articles online. With these databases your search ends here! For articles that are not available in full-text, you will need to find a call number to locate that periodical title in our room. Use the search box below to do this or go to the catalog.
- Find the journal you are looking for. Remember that the shelves in the Periodicals Room are arranged alphabetically from A-Z by call number. Anything older than 1989 is located on the East side in the compact shelving, while anything newer than 1989 is in the open shelves on the West side of the room.
Searching for Newspapers
We carry a variety of local and national newspapers. All newspapers are found behind the Periodicals Reference Desk and are available upon request. Many other newspapers are available online. Use the search box below to see if we carry the hard copy of the newspaper you would like to see.
