Questions about the New IPTV?

March 20, 2012 by a2allred

IPTV/ Channel-i is relatively new. It’s function is to broadcast our video to the computers throughout the Media Center. This helps out when multiple students have to watch the same movie.

Here are the instructions how to watch what we have playing on the IPTV/ Channel-i.

1. To access the player online you MUST use Firefox Mozilla or Google Chrome if you are on a MAC, and Internet Explorer if you are on a PC. The URL you enter must be

http://iptv.byu.edu/player/portlet.htm#

2. The Media Center Desk attendant will tell you which channel your material can be viewed on. Click on “Channel Selection” at the top of the IPTV player, then on the “Campus” tab to access the channel you need. The Media Center broadcasts on Channels 70-84

3. The blue buttons on the bottom adjust volume, surf channels, and perform other useful functions. The material you are viewing may be in use by multiple students, so there is no way to surf chapters or access the DVD menu through IPTV. Please ask a Media Center desk attendant for help with specific viewing needs.

If the Material you are expecting is not playing, or if you have any other questions, please ask the Media Center desk attendants- they would love to help!

Christmas on the movie rack, and in the Media Center

December 12, 2011 by a2allred

Taking Christmas home

Twas the month of Christmas, and all through the Media Center
Not a computer was humming, not a soul to push enter.
The Movies were placed on the shelves with great care,
In hopes that the students would soon appear there.

The Students were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Christmas movies danced in their heads.
The students who just finished with finals cheer and clap
Then settle their brains for a long Holiday nap.

When out on the Movie racks there arose such a clatter,
Students sprang from their beds to see what was the matter.
Away to the Media Center they flew like a flash,
Tore open the doors to check out our great stash.

The Movies contained Christmas stories of  new-fallen snow
And talked of the star that gave the lustre to objects below.
When, what to their wondering eyes should appear,
But a movie about a  sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.

On the cover was a little old driver, so lively and quick,
They knew in a moment this must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
He seemed to have whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

“Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”

Students leaped for movies, off the shelves they seemed to fly,
And then check out the movies that they did not have to buy.
So back to their apartments they ran and  they flew,
With the Christmas spirit in their hearts and a good movie too.

And then, in a twinkling, of the television Screen
That brought great joy to all who had seen,
Of the love of Christmas that could be found all around,
From the Movie that spread Joy in earshot of the sound

So come to the Media Center, Come in great haste
Not a moment to spare, with your time please don’t waste.
to feel of the traditions that these simple movies may bring
Of the Spirit of Christmas that will make your heart sing!

The New SOUND PROOF BOOTH!

October 5, 2011 by a2allred

There may have been talk about how the Media Center is receiving a sound proof booth. Well those rumors are right! We are in the midst of installing it and are finishing up putting equipment together for your enjoyment and use. We’ve converted one of our viewing rooms right next to the Multimedia Lab into a literal Sound proof booth, where our patrons will be able to record and use freely this new technology! If you’d like to schedule this room you can do it on line at this web address! http://mediaviewrooms.lib.byu.edu/

Here are some pictures to whet your appetite!

August Post

August 3, 2011 by a2allred

Seeing how July was filled with all these great American Movies,  we’d thought that England deserved a turn! So August is spotlighting British films! So come over to the Media Center and have a Jolly time!

Soon to come, we’ve decided to spice up our webpage, and put a few movies.  We’ve asked out students to make movies about the Media Center, and they’ve had fun with filming and editing and receiving help from the Multi-Media Lab. Very soon there will be fun short films to watch! Keep your eyes open!

June and July

July 6, 2011 by a2allred

June and July are flying by like a cool summers Breeze!  So many suggestions have come and gone in hopes that everyone gets their media needs! We celebrated the month of June by having all of our movie racks being CARTOONS! There were so many varieties, and now with it being July and a very patriotic month at that, we’ve decided to go with the flow and do the ‘American Dream’ Theme!

Come look at all the movies we have that celebrate our wonderful country!

There is always a movie to watch at the Media Center!
