<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small">A book talk is neither a report  nor a review, but a commercial or a teaser for a book. These are typically  used by librarians and teachers to increase literacy.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small">To create a good book talk:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small">1. Read and like the book you  are going to talk about.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small">2. Decide how long your book  talk needs to be. They can range anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small">3. Choose your approach and  share:</span></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small">A teaser plot summary</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small">A description of    one of the characters</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small">An anecdote from    the story</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small">A series of quotes    from the book that captures its mood</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small">OR something entirely    new. </span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small">4. Write, learn (not memorizing  word for word keeps you out of trouble), and practice your talk.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: small">5. Present your book talk.</span></p>

<p><strong>Lloyd Alexander Conference Room</strong> (4737) is a representation of the late Lloyd Alexander’s home office. For a tour please see Juvenile Reference Assistant in 4720 during reference hours.</p>
<p><strong>Utah</strong><strong> Authors and Illustrators Room/ Opie Collection </strong>(4724): This room houses a collection of books written or illustrated by BYU alumni or Utah residents. Materials are non-circulating, but patrons may sign in at the Juvenile Reference desk 4720 to read materials in the room. The Opie collection is microfiches that are available during reference hours.</p>
<p><strong>Juvenile Locked Case </strong>(4726): This room houses pop-up, small sized, odd shaped or mature books. To check out a locked case book, ask the Assistant in the Juvenile Reference office 4720 during reference hours.</p>
<p><strong>Newbery &amp; Caldecott Winners: </strong>These books have green and blue call number labels and are for reference only. They cannot be checked out, but other copies are available for check out in the Juvenile Collection.</p>
<p><strong>Sorting Shelves</strong>: When books are returned, they are brought up to their floor and put on the sorting shelves by call number before they are reshelved. If you did not find a book on the shelf, the sorting shelves are a great place to look.</p>
<p>Use Library Catalog to search for books of a certain genre such as historical fiction.</p>

<li>Go to the pull-down menu labeled <strong>search all </strong>and type in a term that represents the subject of your search, such as &#8220;World War II.&#8221; If you are looking for both fiction and non-fiction books go to the pull-down menu labeled <strong>location</strong> and select <strong>Juvenile Collection</strong>. Search. The newer books will be listed first.</li>
<li>Display the details for at least one item to find the official subject terms for your search. For World War II, the subject term is &#8220;World War, 1939-1945.&#8221; Use this term to refine your search.</li>
<li>To limit your search to fictional books, go to the pull-down menu labeled <strong>subject</strong> and type &#8220;Juvenile fiction.&#8221; Search.</li>
<li>To limit your search to non-fiction books, go to the pull-down menu labeled <strong>subject</strong> and type &#8220;Juvenile literature.&#8221; Search.</li>

<li>Select &#8220;Library Catalog&#8221; under <span style="text-decoration: underline">Unique Collections at BYU</span></li>
<li>Below the main search bar choose “Advanced Keyword Search”</li>

<p>Life is busy, and we all have a great deal to keep up with everyday.   A useful way to keep up to date with newly posted information on this or any other blog is to set-up RSS feeds.  (RSS stands for &#8220;Really Simple Syndication.&#8221;)  You can &#8220;sign-up&#8221; for our blog to send you RSS feeds.   Though your email account you will be notified of new posts to the blog without having to check the blog regularly.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline"><em>How to set-up an RSS feed</em> </span>:</p>
<p>To set-up an RSS feed from our blog, just a follow these steps:</p>
<ol>
