For Students
What do I need to do to fulfill the library requirements for an Advanced Writing course?
- Register for a Library Session.
- Complete the Advanced Writing Tutorial and corresponding online assignment through Blackboard
- Attend a Library Session.
How do I register for an Advanced Writing Library Session?
- Fill out the Library Instruction Student Scheduling Survey during the first 2 weeks of the semester (first week of spring/summer terms).
- Sessions are scheduled during a limited time period each semester/term. The times are finalized after receiving feedback from students through the above survey.
How will I know what session to attend?
- One week after the Scheduling Survey deadline, you will receive an e-mail indicating your assigned session.
- If you do not receive an e-mail please contact Library_Instruction@byu.edu.
What happens in the Advanced Library Instruction Sessions?
- This 50 minute session will introduce you to the important resources and skills necessary to successfully complete a research project in your major.
- Hands-on time is provided, so come with a research topic and questions for the subject librarian.
- Make sure attendance is taken at the session so you will receive credit for attending.
What happens if I miss my Session?
- It is important that you attend your assigned session. If you are unable to attend, please contact Library_Instruction@byu.edu as soon as possible to reschedule.
- If you wait too long you will miss all “for credit” sessions available that semester. We can still help you set up a time to meet with the librarian and receive individual instruction, but no credit will be given.
