How do I schedule Advanced Writing Library Sessions?

What should be taught in an Advanced Writing Session?

The focus of an Advanced Writing library session should be on the relevant resources and research skills students need to succeed in researching a topic in their major.  Basic research skills should not be a part of the 50 minute presentation.  Refer students to the Library Instruction Office, 2224 HBLL, for help with their basic research needs.

Common elements of an Advanced Writing Session include:

  • Teach specific research skills and research strategy for the major.
  • Demonstrate the use of subject specific databases for the major.
  • Provide fifteen minutes of exploration and practice time with individual help.

When a student meets with me after the deadline, how can I report this attendance to their instructor?

  • You can record their attendance online through the Registration System. Library Instruction personnel transfer this to the student’s Advanced Writing Blackboard course which their instructor can access.
