Book Kits

October 7, 2009 in Book Kits, Resource Material

Whether in the classroom or at home, book kits extend the reading of a book, enhance learning experiences, and boost the interaction/discussion between child and adult.  Most kits include 3-5 activities that are designed to expand competencies, critical thinking, imagination, creativity, and communication skills.  Feel free to pick , choose, and adapt the activities.

To build your own book kits:

  • locate the list of book kits by typing “Book Kit Topics and Titles” in the search block above on the right.
  • select a topic and read the corresponding book
  • print the suggested activities
  • gather any required materials, such as art supplies
  • assemble game boards and pieces, if needed
  • store the kit in a large envelope or zip-top plastic bag

Our book kits  are created by elementary education students in the undergraduate course, “Teaching Social Studies in the Elementary School.”  Although they are designed for classroom use, book kits are easily adaptable to home and other settings.
