We have a welcome back present for all our returning students: the BizMiner database. This new tool will allow you to look at average financial statements for an industry, and even monthly cash flow statements for start-ups. For example:

• • Nationwide the restaurant industry’s gross margin is 59% of revenue, but net profit is only 5.5%
• • The asset turnover ratio is 1.4 and the quick ratio is 0.5
• • Provo-Orem area restaurants record sales of about $30,000 per employee
• • And what is the failure rate for restaurants in the Provo-Orem area?  37%

BizMiner is a great source for industry research and a wonderful tool for fleshing out your business plan.
