This site is an electronic version of the printed bibliography A Mormon Bibliography, 1830-1930. Books, pamphlets, periodicals, and broadsides relating to the first century of Mormonism. Second edition, revised and enlarged compiled by Chad J. Flake and Larry W. Draper and published in two volumes by the Religious Studies Center at Brigham Young University in 2004. It is a revised and enlarged edition of the 1978 edition printed by the University of Utah Press.
The site does not provide images of the printed pages of the two volume bibliography, but rather, it contains the electronic text formatted by bibliographic fields much like a library catalog. The database contains bibliographic records (over 14,500) for the entries found in the printed bibliography. These records itemize print publications of many varieties which relate in some way to Mormonism during its first century (1830-1930). In a limited number of cases there are hyper-links added from the electronic record to images of the pages of the book the record refers to.
One may search the database by Author, Title (or Added Title), Keyword All (which searches all searchable fields at once), or by the Flake/Draper bibliography number. One may also browse the database in numerical sequence by Flake/Draper number which is particularly useful in some cases. (For example, when looking at publications where there are many different editions of the same title). However, because of the way the database was originally formatted, when searching by Flake/Draper number one must use one or more preceding zeros in the search term for all numbers less than 10,000. For example use: 00007 rather than just 7; 00081 rather than just 81; 00450 rather than just 450; or 07654 rather than just 7654. To search for Flake/Draper numbers in the 10,000s there is no need for preceding zeros, however, the comma is required in the search term.
