Biographical History
In 1960 an Institute of American Indian Studies and Research was
established to assist Indians of all ages with their education and to implement
programs for Indian Students. Currently known as multicultural programs, they
are supported and assisted by Multicultural Students Services at BYU.
Multicultural Student Services (MSS) is a unique team of multicultural
specialists who value the total development of the multicultural student within
the “Aims of a BYU Education.” They seek to develop a BYU environment of
"fellow citizenry" where multiculturalism can flourish. Located on the first
floor of the Wilkinson Center they hope to identify and recruit academically,
spiritually, and socially prepared multicultural students, act as a liaison
between multicultural students and university services, and provide programs
and services that assist multicultural students in meeting their financial,
social, and academic needs. The Multicultural Student Services has broadened
over the years to reach out to many students of different cultures and
backgrounds.
