and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was
the first president of the Idaho Falls South LDS Stake serving in that capacity
from June 30, 1946 to September 1964. From October 1964 to June 1967 Hart
served as president of the LDS Church French Mission in Paris and was
responsible for the LDS servicemen in France and the Mediterranean. From 1967
to 1970 he served as a Regional Representative for the Quorum of the Twelve.
Hart was president of the Idaho Falls Temple from 1970-75. He has also served
as stake patriarch of the South Idaho Falls LDS Stake and Chairman of the
multi-stake Seminary Board. He served as Vice-President of the Idaho Falls LDS
Hospital board of trustees and chairman of its executive committee. He was a
member of the Ricks College Advisory Committee and a member of the college
special committee on Nurse’s Education Program. He was a member of the Teton
Peaks Boy Scout Council executive board and a national representative. He was a
recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.A majority of the collection pertains to
his life as an active member of the LDS Church. Stake President, Regional
Representative, Temple President, and French Mission Correspondence, most of
which is from the First Presidency. ProvenanceAfter the death of Cecil Hart this collection was donated to Ricks
College. Archivist Blaine R. Bake accepted the collection on behalf of the
college.

Biographical HistoryCecil E. Hart was born Dec 19, 1905 in Menan, Idaho to John William
Hart and Elizabeth Jane Hogge Hart. He graduated from Rigby High School in 1925
and attended Brigham Young University in Provo from 1925-1927. He then attended
the University of Idaho in Moscow from 1930-1932, graduating with a Bachelors
degree in business administration.
Cecil was called to serve an LDS mission from June 1927 to September
1929. On April 6, 1932 he married Vera Christian Pfost, with whom he had three
children: Ray, John Cecil, and Joyce
Throughout his life Cecil was an active businessman. In 1946 he was
president and manager of the Idaho Radio Corporation, and owner of KID radio
station. Hart was the co-founder of The Bank of Commerce, and served as a
director and chairman of the board for many years. He started out at Smith-
Hart Chevrolet- Cadillac from 1933-1938 as an accountant. He was sales manager
of the firm from 1938-1941, and general manager and partner in the company from
1941-1958 and later became president from 1958-1987. He was a past director of
the Idaho Automobile Dealers Association and past president of the Idaho Falls
Automobile Dealers Association
Cecil Hart was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus

Cecil Elmo Hart died June 27, 1987.
Scope and Content NoteThe Cecil Hart Collection contains correspondence from his career as a
car salesman for Hart Pontiac, as a member of the Board of Directors for the
Bank of Commerce, and correspondence while he was owner of KID radio.
A majority of the correspondence consists of his life as an active
member of the LDS Church. Stake President, Regional Representative, Temple
President, and French Mission Correspondence, most of which is from the First
Presidency.
Many postcards can be found in the collection, from Europe and the
United States. Scrapbooks and family genealogical material is also included as
well as many family photographs
