The author and calligrapher of these manuscripts are not known. Zollinger believes that they were done by one of his Swiss ancestors. Other beliefs include that they may have been written by a monk before books were published. This collection was donated to Ricks College in 1977.

College Archivist R.S. McCarrey wrote the following: "The Manuscript is comprised of illuminated original writing in German on parchment. The writing was apparently done by early monks."
"The writings have been examined by Professors Albert Pieper, and Robert Scheartz. Albert Pieper said the writings appear to be of about the Middle Century, written by Monks. He said that the writings appear to be original; apparently written on parchment."
