various friends and relatives. Willard was born February 18, 1801 in Wrenthem,
Massachusetts. He lived in Nauvoo during the height of the Mormon occupation.
He eventually disassociated himself from the LDS Church and moved to Wisconsin
where he became a prominent citizen. Among the letters in the collection are
those from Willard's brothers, Edmund and Rufus. Both were born in
Massachusetts. Edmund on July 7, 1803 and Rufus on December 11, 1804. Both Men
were active in the LDS Church. While Rufus and his family eventually emigrated
to Utah, Edmund remained behind in Iowa where he became associated with Alpheus
Cutler and his Church of Christ movement.
