(1865-1932) was the son of apostle Erastus Snow. He spent most of his life in
St. George, Utah, where he served as president of the LDS St. George Stake and
president of the St. George Temple. He served a mission to the southern states
as well as serving as president of the Eastern States Mission. He was also a
member of the Utah State Constitutional Convention and the Utah State Tax
Commission.This collection contains material from
the life of Edward Hunter Snow and covers the years 1878-1932. These materials
are in addition to other materials previously acquired by BYU.ProvenanceThe collection was donated to the L. Tom Perry Special Collections in
the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University, in March 2002 by Karl
Snow, representing the Edward Hunter Snow Family Organization. This material
was donated as an addition to the Edward Hunter Snow Papers, which were donated
to the library in 1997 by the children of Rulon A. Snow and E. Vernon Snow and
the grandchildren of Edward H. Snow, including Karl Snow.

Edward H. Snow
Edward Hunter Snow was born 23 June 1865 in St. George, Utah, to
Erastus Snow and Julia Spencer Snow. During his life, much of which was spent
in St. George, he was very active in religious and community affairs. He served
as president of the LDS (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) St.
George Stake (1901-1925), president of the LDS St. George Temple, and was a
founder of Dixie College, originally called St. George Stake Academy. He was
also active in the economic development of the St. George area, including the
founding of the Southwest Utah Telephone Company, the Bank of St. George, and
the St. George Building Society. He attended Brigham Young Academy in Provo,
Utah, from 1882-1885, graduating with a normal certificate that led to a
teaching position in Santa Clara, Utah. He married Hannah Nelson in September
1885. He served an LDS mission to the Southern States (1886-1887) and was
president of the Eastern States mission from 1889-1901.
He was the youngest member of the Utah State Constitutional Convention
in 1895. He was selected to the first Utah State Senate in 1896. He also served
on the Utah State Tax Commission. Edward H. Snow died on 18 July 1932 in Salt
Lake City, Utah.
John G. McQuarrie
John Gray McQuarrie was born 10 October 1867, in Spanish Fork, Utah,
to Hector McQuarrie and Agnes Gray. He married Maggie Seegmiller, of St.
George, Utah, in December 1889. He was set apart for an LDS mission to the
Eastern States on 3 August 1900. He became President of that mission seven
months later, on 8 March 1901. He continued as President of the Eastern States
mission for almost eight more years, until 8 August 1908 when he was released.
John G. McQuarrie died on 30 May 1962.
